Por un lado, se ha conservado el magnífico planteamiento del original y, por otro, se ha actualizado su contenido con el fin de dar respuesta a las nuevas expectativas que han surgido en el mundo de la construcción, especialmente las exigencias medioambientales. Arte de proyectar en arquitectura es un manual de proyectos de construcción que reúne de forma sistemática los fundamentos, las normas y las prescripciones sobre recintos, edificios, exigencias de programa, relaciones espaciales, dimensiones de edificios, locales, estancias, instalaciones y utensilios con el ser humano como medida y objetivo. En esta edición se han revisado y actualizado muchos de los capítulos, entre los que se encuentran: instalaciones deportivas acuáticas, cubiertas, hoteles, evacuación de incendios, muebles y utensilios de cocina, establecimientos de comida rápida, fachadas de madera, normativas de ahorro energético, ascensores, arquitectura solar, rehabilitación y reutilización de edificios, etc. Además de completar los contenidos respecto a las anteriores ediciones, esta nueva versión es fiel a la obra de Ernst Neufert y continúa siendo una referencia bibliográfica de reconocido valor universal, un manual indispensable para arquitectos, arquitectos técnicos, ingenieros, constructores, profesores y estudiantes. Desde su primera edición alemana de 1936, se han realizado 39 ediciones en alemán y 16 en castellano, se ha publicado en 18 idiomas diferentes y se han vendido más de un millón de ejemplares en conjunto. Ernst Neufert (1900-1986) nació en Freyburg an der Unstrut, Alemania. Trabajó cinco años colaborando en proyectos de planeamiento y como director de obra en Weimar y en 1919 ingresó en el departamento de arquitectura de la Bauhaus. A finales de 1920 abandona dicha escuela y realiza unos viajes de estudio por el sur de Europa, experiencia que publicaría en Das Jahr in Spanien (El año en España). Posteriormente trabajó en varios proyectos junto a Walter Gropius, y en 1924 fue nombrado director técnico del despacho, sucediendo en el cargo a Adolf Meyer. A sus 26 años fue nombrado profesor y director del departamento de construcción de la Bauhaus de Weimar, y poco después director suplente y responsable del taller de arquitectura de la Universität Jena. En 1936 se publicó la primera edición alemana de Arte de proyectar en arquitectura.
