O setor sucroalcooleiro brasileiro acredita que ser um dos maiores fornecedores mundiais de lcool combustvel e de tecnologias para montagem de destilarias em outros pases. Portanto, tecnologias capazes de melhorar o desempenho da produo do setor ganham importncia fundamental no pas. Dessa forma, o presente trabalho estudou o processo de produo de etanol utilizando um reator tubular de escoamento ascendente com recirculao externa e uma cepa de leveduras com caractersticas floculantes. Avaliou-se rendimento, produtividade de etanol e concentrao residual de sacarose. Foi feito tambm um estudo cintico desse processo. O modelo cintico de Tosetto foi ajustado para os dados experimentais. A fermentao alcolica, usando um reator tipo torre com uma cepa deleveduras com caractersticas floculantes forneceu maior produtividade e rendimentos quando comparados a dados reportados pela literatura ou a processos industriais de produo de etanol.
